“I'm a feminist because...“, profile on Marc Rockquemore: co-owner of New Identities Hair Studios, Tampa, Florida; published in Skirt Magazine, July 2008 issue, pp 34 ”I'm 100%committeded to our employees personal, spiritual, and professional growth! As a male business owner in an industry highly dominated by women, my company is focused on raising the bar in our industry by offering ground-breaking employebenefitsts, removing the income glass ceiling, and empowering individuals through accountability." The 32 members of this season’s squad visited New Identities Hair Studios on Amberly Drive for hair and makeup makeovers in preparation for the 2008 Tampa Bay Buccaneers football season, as well as to get ready for their swimsuit calendar photography sessions and team and individual photos. As Cheerleader Jeni Summers, a six year veteran of the squad, got golden-blonde highlights added to her hair, team cheerleading and mascot coordinator Sandy Charboneau gave suggestions to New Identities hairstylist Cindy Walters. “New Identities Hair Studio knows what I’m looking for, as far as the image of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Cheerleaders.”… “Our Town – Tampa, Florida is known for its hot, humid, and stormy weather. Nicole Palmieri found four salons that keep residents cool but still look sizzling hot”, published in American Salon Magazine, Better Business section, volume 131, number 5, May 2008 issue, pp 62. Thinking outside the box is what keeps New Identities Hair Studios trendy and popular among Tampa residents. “We don’t limit ourselves to the four walls of the salon,” says co-owner Marc Rockquemore. In addition to providing top-notch service to our clients, New Identities Hair Studio is the exclusive hair salon of The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Cheerleaders, has been featured on such national television shows as FOX’s Ambush Makeover and TLC’s A Wedding Story, and is actively involved in several charitable organizations, including Locks-of-Love. New Identities Hair studio, which has two locations in Tampa, features an upscale, eclectic, studio-inspired décor with open ceilings and mirrors suspended from chains, and offers only hair services. Says Rockquemore, “I think it’s very important to define who you are as a company, and focus on your strengths, which for us is hair.”… “New Identities Hair Studio”, Chair Talk Magazine, April 2008, pp9 Defining who you are is the former broker’s mantra. The Rockquemore’s work hard at maintaining New Identities’ high-profile status in the community. Such activities naturally draw attention. In 2005, New Identities was named Small Business of the Year in Tampa, accompanied by considerable publicity. Every Valentines Day, the salon hosts an annual benefit for woman from area shelters for battered women. This year, for the first time, the South Shore salon greeted residents of Alpha House of Tampa, a program for pregnant women in crisis, and the New Tampa salon welcomed residents of The Spring of Tampa Bay; a shelter for battered woman. “There were lots of tears”, Rockquemore said. “Many of these women had never even been in a salon before. New Identities Hair Studio of Tampa Palms hosted its Fourth Annual Valentines Day private event for the residents of The Spring of Tampa Bay – the largest domestic violence shelter in the state of Florida. The sole purpose of the event was to raise the self-esteem of the battered residents of The Spring, while creating necessary community awareness of the tragedy of domestic violence. At least 20 residents from The Spring received complimentary makeovers at the event. Lunch was provided by Stonewood Grill & Tavern. The same day, New Identities Hair Studio South Shore hosted its first annual private event benefiting Alpha House of Tampa; a Tampa-based woman’s crisis center. “Makeovers Give Women New Looks, New Outlooks & New Identities!”, published in The New Tampa Neighborhood News, vol 16, issue 4, February 22, 2008, written by Michael Smith. Marc and Kelly Rockquemore, the owners of New Identities Hair Studios, say they started their Valentines Day Makeover Event for the residents of The Spring of Tampa Bay (shelter for abused and battered women) 4 years ago for two reasons: to help those women get a new start on life, and to help create public awareness of the tragedy that is domestic violence. The Rockquemore’s provide all of the beauty supplies for the makeovers and hold the even on a day when their salons are normally closed. Even their hair and makeup artists volunteer to donate their time. The hair stylists also donate money and other personal items for the women, some of whom arrive at the shelters with nothing more than the clothes on their backs, and often with children in tow. And this year, the Rockquemore’s expanded the event to their new Apollo Beach location, where they also gave makeovers to residents of another woman’s shelter, the Alpha House of Tampa…. “New Identities Hair Studios”, published in New Tampa Style Magazine, February 2008 edition, pp 32, written by Christina Jackman.
